Forty-pounds,
four ounces -- a quarter pound heavier than a sack of topsoil you'd pick
up down at your local garden supply shop. It was caught on a 1/32oz olive
green maribou jig and was fought with an ultralight rod and reel loaded

Hayes, on a sunny afternoon in July of 1955, caught the biggest smallmouth
bass to ever be brought in for weighing in the history of fishing records.
While trolling a Model 300 Bomber along a stretch of Dale Hollow Lake
he caught a smallmouth bass for the history books. His catch obliterated a record that was in the high 8 pound range and even today outweighs its nearest competitor by over a pound. |

Konrad of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan caught a Rainbow Trout in Lake Diefenbaker
on June 5th , 2007. The impressive trout weighed in at 43 lbs 6 ounces.
It is a new World Record. The fish will have to be tested to see if it's a pure bred or a genetically enhanced trout before it receives official World Record status. |
